Tour to UNESCO heritage site: Gulangyu Island

Gulangyu Island is located just southwest of Xiamen City. Visitors can reach it by steamship from Xiamen City in about 5 minutes. This scenic area is renowned for its delicate natural beauty, its ancient relics, and its varied architecture. The island is on China's list of National Scenic Spots and also ranks at the top of the list of the ten most-scenic areas in Fujian Province. In July 2017, it was listed as a world heritage site by the UNESCO. With the famous tourism site including Sunlight Rock, Shuzhuang Garden.

Tour to World Culture Heritage: Hakka Buildings

Tour the world’s cultural heritage – Hakka Buildings, Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster. The cluster consists of a square earth building at the center of a quincunx, surrounded by four round earth buildings (or more exactly, 3 round earth buildings and one oval shape earth building), figuratively nicknamed "four dishes one soup". With a history of more than 100 years, the Tulou cluster shows the masterpiece of architecture of the Hakka people. Then proceed to visit Yuchang Lou, which is over 600 years old. It is also the world’s only hakka building with the pillars leaning in different directions inside. Then proceed to visit the Taxia village. With a stream along the whole area, the Taxia village shows you a great picture of nature and local life.



To better understand the research capabilities and facilities of the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science (Xiamen Univeristy) , a visit of R/V TKK (Research Vessel Tan Kah Kee) will be arranged if its schedule permits.

Visit to Research Vessel Tan Kah Kee

Construction began in March 2015, launched and named in May 2016, officially delivered and put into service in April 2017, research vessel Tan Kah Kee (R/V TKK) is one of the most advanced and versatile research vessels in China.

Commissioned with tailor-design low-noise electric propulsion system, R/V TKK can mitigate underwater radiated noise (URN). The vessel has outstanding science handling abilities, equipped with state-of-the-art acoustic transducers, with highly precise dynamic positioning performance, Trace Elements and Isotopes Sampling System (TEISS), and broad-band data transmission capability, enabling it to carry out multi-disciplinary field observations in global ice-free waters.
