September Update

As the 2025 Xiamen Symposium on Marine Environmental Sciences (XMAS 2025) draws near, we are excited to share some exciting updates and remind you that the abstract submission deadline is fast approaching on September 20th, 2024. This biennial event, taking place from January 14th to 17th, 2025, promises to be a dynamic and enriching experience for all participants.
Explore the Exciting Sessions, Workshops, and Townhalls
XMAS 2025 will be a vibrant and interdisciplinary platform featuring 70 scientific sessions, 2 townhalls, and 6 workshops. The content will cover the core areas of ocean science, including physical, chemical, and biological oceanography, marine pollution, and the interdisciplinary approaches needed to address urgent marine environmental challenges. It will showcase cutting-edge research, innovative solutions, and foster collaborative discussions on topics related to global and regional oceans.

The 70 scientific sessions will cover topics including extreme weather events, marine biogeochemical cycles, ocean deoxygenation, microbial activity, ecological and socio-economic benefits of marine protected areas, and the impact of human activities like plastic pollution. The sessions aim to deepen our understanding of the ocean and climate systems while promoting sustainable solutions through research and cooperation.

The 2 townhalls and 6 workshops will focus on discussions and exchanges in areas such as manuscript writing and reviewing, Women in Science, Education and Outreach, and regional marine ecosystem research.

The Symposium will provide Student Presentation Award, Early Career Scientist Travel Award, Mentor Meets Mentee program, and a series of education and outreach activities.

For Conveners

  • Promote XMAS 2025 and your sessions: Actively encourage colleagues, collaborators, and the broader scientific community to submit abstracts to your sessions via emails, social media, and personal outreach.
  • Monitor the submitted abstracts regularly throughout the entire abstract submission period. If there are any abstracts that need to be rejected or suggested for a session transfer, please contact xmas@xmu.edu.cn.
  • Review and Evaluate Abstracts: once the abstract submission is closed, conveners will review and judge abstracts for their session.
  • Coordinate with Invited Authors: invite up to two authors to your session by email or phone call by September 5th, 2024.
  • Engage with the Organizing Committee: please regularly update the Local Organizing Committee on the progress of your sessions and collaborate on any program adjustments.
  • Plan the Townhall and Workshop Structure: Please plan in advance to ensure smooth flow and integration of talks, panel discussions, or Q&A segments.
  • Facilitate Networking: Conveners can encourage interaction between participants, speakers, and panelists, fostering collaboration and discussion before, during, and after the event.
  • Please be available from September 20th to October 20th, 2024 especially the primary liaison to respond to Local Organizing Committee (LOC)'s inquiries.

For Everyone

  • Submit an Abstract: review the submitted abstracts, submit yours and present at the Symposium.
  • Promote the Symposium: Share information about the Symposium with your networks (colleagues, students, social media followers) to drive interest and participation.
  • Attend and Network: you may begin planning attendance, organizing collaborations, and preparing for potential networking events.
